About Metamorphosis:
The artists Iratxe Ansa and Igor Bacovich’s professional paths crosses in 2013. Since then, they have created numerous pieces as guest choreographers for renowned dance companies and cultural institutions.
Simultaneously, since 2019 Iratxe Ansa and Igor Bacovich have run their own company, Metamorphosis Dance, with which they have developed their own aesthetic line and language. They have done so using a unique and very personal work method. Always uncompromisingly rigorous, the two choreographers champion research of all the facets of movement.
As artists, their passion lies in the process and constant quest for excellence. Their relentlessly dynamic creations are a showcase of emotion and tension.
Iratxe Ansa: (born in San Sebastian, in 1976) started her studies in the Basque Country, Spain, and finished her training in John Cranko Schule, Stuttgart, Germany.
In her career as a dancer spanning from 1994-2010, she has formed part of the Basel Ballet, Ballet Gulbenkian, National Dance Company of Spain, Lyon Opera Ballet, and the Nederlands Dans Theater. Her variety of registers and her creativity have always been an important asset for the choreographers.
This comprehensive professional baggage has permitted her to carve out her career as a freelance artist and develop her own voice as a creator.
The recognition of her work in the world of dance has resulted in various awards, amongst which most noticeably the National Dance Award in the category of Performer (Spain 2020). The jury pointed out her exceptional “range as a performer, making her shine beyond the purely physical work, and her mastery with which she feeds the body to transcend the technique into a constant and versatile evolution.” She has also received the Max Award for Best Female Dance Performer (Spain, 2021) for her performance in the play “In the Nude”.
Igor Bacovich: (born in Turin, in 1982) started his studies at the Accademia Nazionale di Danza de Roma, in Italy, and graduated from CODARTS (Rotterdam, The Netherlands). In this latter country, he worked as a dancer for different Dutch dance companies for five years.
Nonetheless, not all of his professional career is related to dance. For eight years he dedicated himself to social work, which has had a pivotal role in shaping his creative and inquisitive spirit. These experiences rewarded him with valuable resources for his subsequent career path.
In 2013 he returned to the world of dance. In 2019 he created the company Metamorphosis Dance together with the choreographer Iratxe Ansa.
The artistic work by Igor Bacovich has been recognised with the prestigious award: Premio Nazionale Sfera D’Oro per la Danza (Italy, 2021).
