A Three-Day Tanztheater Intensive with Rainer Behr

Explore the body, space, intention and the creative language of Tanztheater with Rainer Behr, whose artistic life has been deeply connected to the work of Pina Bausch and Tanztheater Wuppertal.
Over three intensive days, dancers will be invited to move beyond steps and established ideas of what dance should be, exploring the relationship between movement and feeling, body and space, intention and expression.
At the heart of the workshop is a question central to Rainer’s approach:
What happens before movement begins?
Without space, there is no body, and without the body, space cannot become visible — neither the outer nor the inner space.
It is about something hidden, something towards which the body points while itself moving into the background, allowing the invisible to become visible.
In the end, nothing remains but clarity.
When every fixed idea of what dance is can be let go, dance is free to emerge.
It is about feeling rather than form. Yet if the form is not right, the feeling cannot be understood.
It is not only about what the body does, but why it moves.
The three-day intensive will include:
Across the three days, the work will progressively develop into a creative process, culminating in an informal studio sharing on Sunday afternoon.

Who is it for?
For dancers and movement practitioners interested in Tanztheater, Pina Bausch’s artistic legacy, choreography and the relationship between movement and human experience.
A minimum of two years of dance practice is highly recommended.
Participants must attend all three days, as the creative process develops throughout the intensive.
