Facilitated by Irene Miguel
Date: 26 July 2025
Time: 3 hours, 10:30 AM to 02:30 PM
Price: £40
Venue: Acosta Dance Centre
Level: Open to all levels

Join internationally acclaimed artist, educator, and researcher Irene Miguel for an unforgettable workshop that redefines how we experience salsa — not just as a dance, but as a living musical language.

With over 35 years of global experience in salsa, somatics, and cultural education, Irene has created a unique method that integrates rhythm, movement, and memory. This all-levels session invites you to explore salsa through the five elements — Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Space — offering a rich, playful, and deeply personal journey into embodied musicality.

Through improvisation, body percussion, guided listening, and creative exploration, you’ll:

  • Deepen your connection to both live and recorded salsa music

  • Discover rhythm through your body, imagery, and intuition

  • Expand your movement vocabulary and expressive freedom

  • Connect with others in a culturally vibrant, non-judgmental space

Whether you’re a complete beginner or a seasoned dancer, this workshop offers a powerful space to move, listen, and remember — you are the music.

About Irene Miguel

Latina artist, choreographer, and cultural activist Irene Miguel is a pioneer in embodied musicality. Founder of Mambolifestyle and Salsalifestyle, and creator of the influential Students Performance Teams Project, Irene has revolutionised salsa education by blending somatic awareness, musical depth, and cultural heritage.

Her choreography and original compositions feature in interdisciplinary productions like Mbaréte, and she is currently composing her second Latin fusion album with international collaborators. Holding an MFA from Trinity Laban and pursuing a PhD at the University of East London, Irene’s research explores how somatic practices can unlock deeper, more meaningful interpretations of salsa music in dance.

This workshop is more than a class — it’s a celebration of identity, memory, and rhythm as healing forces.
