In partnership with Neverland Space Theatre, the Acosta Dance Centre is delighted to host diverse workshops and performances that celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Asian movement practices. From classical Chinese dance to contemporary interpretations of Taoist philosophy, from the poetic stillness of Noh theatre to the dynamic energy of K-pop, this festival provides an immersive journey through tradition and innovation. Join us in discovering the profound connections between movement, culture, and storytelling in Asian performing arts.
Led by UKCPA (UK China Performing Arts)
This workshop introduces participants to the elegance and philosophy of Chinese classical dance, emphasising fluidity, balance, and the integration of breath with movement. Rooted in traditional aesthetics, it explores the connection between inner energy (Qi) and outward expression. Participants will experience how breathwork enhances movement, how rhythm flows naturally with the body, and how each gesture carries cultural wisdom. Open to all levels, this session offers a deeper understanding of Chinese dance as both an art form and a cultural practice.

This workshop bridges Taoist traditions with contemporary dance, inspired by temple rituals, Tai Chi, and traditional Chinese dance. Participants will engage with Taoist music and movement, integrating these elements into contemporary dance practice. Through a structured session including technique, movement flow, chanting, and performance excerpts, this workshop offers a profound insight into Taoist philosophy and its artistic expression.
Led by Tomo Sone (Japanese Choreographer)
This contemporary dance workshop draws inspiration from Noh theatre, encouraging participants to explore movement through stillness, weight distribution, and deep physical awareness. Focusing on improvisation rather than strict choreography, this session cultivates a profound connection between the body, gravity, and presence.
