About Yosvani: Yosvani Ramos is a Cuban ballet dancer known for his exceptional talent and performances on stages around the world. Raised in Camagüey, Cuba, he received his early training at the Vocational School f Arts and quickly established himself as a promising young dancer. In 1994, he won the gold medal at the Vignale Festival of Dance, setting the stage for his remarkable career.
Ramos’s professional journey began in September 1997 when he joined the Jeune Ballet de France, a renowned French touring company. Under the guidance of Robert Berthier and Rosella Hightower, he trained rigorously for three months and embarked on a nine-month tour, honing his skills and gaining invaluable experience. After his time with the Jeune Ballet de France, Ramos became a member of the Paris Opera Ballet, where he performed as a surnuméraire (extra member of the corps de ballet) in Nureyev’s Swan Lake.
In August 1999, Derek Deane, the artistic director of English National Ballet, recognized Ramos’s talent and invited him to join the company as a soloist. Within a year, he was promoted to senior soloist, and in 2003, following a captivating performance as Franz in Coppélia at Sadler’s Wells Theatre, he was promoted to principal dancer. During his nine-year tenure with English National Ballet, Ramos showcased his versatility and artistry, dancing lead roles in classic ballets such as Giselle, Swan Lake, Coppélia, Romeo & Juliet, Don Quixote, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker, The Merry Widow, Manon, and La Silphíde. He also had the opportunity to perform works by esteemed choreographers such as Balanchine, Ratmansky, and Duato.
In January 2008, Ramos embarked on a new chapter in his career as he joined The Australian Ballet as a principal artist. His presence and talent enriched the company, and he frequently collaborated with fellow principal dancer Leanne Stojmenov, captivating audiences both in Australia and as a guest artist internationally. After five fulfilling years with The Australian Ballet, Ramos bid farewell in April 2013, embarking on a freelance career that took him to various corners of the world.
As a freelance dancer, Ramos graced stages worldwide, showcasing his exceptional artistry and technique. He performed as James in La Sylphide with Bangkok City Ballet in Thailand in July 2013 and participated in the 18th International Ballet Festival in Miami in September of the same year. In July 2014, he joined the Cincinnati Ballet as a principal dancer, further expanding his artistic repertoire. The following year, in August 2015, Ramos joined Colorado Ballet as a principal dancer, where he continues to captivate audiences with his remarkable performances.
Throughout his career, Ramos has received numerous accolades and awards that recognize his exceptional talent and dedication to his craft. Notable achievements include winning the gold medal at the Paris International Dance Competition in 1998, as well as receiving the Grand Prix and Best Couple awards at the International Ballet Festival of Havana in 1995. He has been honored with gold medals at various international ballet competitions, including Vignale Danza in Italy, Joinville Dance Festival in Brazil, and Bento Dance in Brazil, among others.
